Pathrakadavu – The Virgin valley

Pathrakkadavu is one of the pleasing destinations located in the Palakkad district of the Indian state of Kerala. Originating from the well known silent valley, water slides through blissful deep forests along with numerous milky waterfalls on its route and then merges with the Kunthi river(Kunthippuzha), forms a beautiful valley called Pathrakkadavu also known as Virgin valley. Freezing cold water and beautiful rocks adjacent to the tropical forest here surely makes everyone connect to mother nature. To witness this natural beauty tourists usually come here and take a joyous dip in the chilling fresh water.

  

Since its originating from the nearest silent valley, the place here is rich in unique flora and fauna. You can witness the clearest and purest form of water due to this. Trekking through the river during summer(Water level and its force will be low in summer) is the other adventure thing to do here. This place in Kuruthichal is a hangout spot for youngsters these days who just want to escape to nature. Apart from this, there are many people who depend on this river for irrigation, farming, and other household purposes. Bananas, coconuts, and areca nuts are the common cultivation you can find here. Since the presence of reserved forest above the river, there is a lot of wildlife has been spotted in these areas.

                     

When to visit?

You can visit here at any time except for the peak monsoon season. Pathrakkadavu is strictly restricted and Govt usually blocks the area during this time. There are many fatalities that have been reported in this area due to the carelessness of the visitors. It is scary, dangerous, and hard to survive from heavy falls and sliding rocks when you come at peak monsoon season. The water level goes up any time without giving you a hint at these days. The area will be pleasant and looks cool during summer and winter. Don’t dare to go for a dip in deep areas if you don’t know proper swimming. The river has been overflown during the time of  Kerala floods and made severe destruction and losses over the area nearby Kuruthichal.

                                  

How to get there?

If you coming from Palakkad side you should take a diversion to the right from Kalladi college center and head to Mylampadam. You can reach the destination by following the Mylampadam-Kuruthichal route. If you are traveling from Kozhikkode side you should take a left diversion from Ariyur. You reach Pathrakkadavu when you stick to the Kuruthichal route. Since the limited availability of public transport, it is better to head with your own bike/car. The parking facility is available at the top.

The place is usually crowded on weekends. Try to visit on weekdays to feel the serenity of this place. Govt has been noticed these days that the place is getting dirty due to the careless visitors. Due to these rules, they are very strict regarding the usage of plastic waste here. Keep the place neat and clean when you visit here.
